Our story board and idea

The two of these are plans for storyboards for our film we have done it like this so you can see what is happening in both situations at the same time, they go on simultaneously

· 1) It would start off with (number 5) which is actually the end so we would start it off with a non-linear plot, this is a flash back but the audience wouldn't know this at this point. So the mise-en-scene would be in school hallway where he's stood at a door blocking the exit she's facing the other way he walks up to her it’s an over the shoulder shot from her front, so you can see her expressions but can also see a blurred figure walking towards he, then it switches from that to an over the shoulder of the him but you don't see his face all you see is a bit of his shoulder a gun, then a gun going off. (music playing)

· 2) It would start off with a swipe up transition an establishing shot of him in bed so you get to see where he is , the mise-en-scene of this scene is a bedroom, masculine bedroom dark cause it's night with phone next to him, no sound just silence. (number 1 in bed) (music fades)

· 3) Then it would go to (number 1 in the hallway) where he’s walking after her as she's running there’d be no dialogue except him saying 'stop'. When he screams stop it, it blurs and flashes and then it would go back to him in this bed (music stops) it would then start craning up to the ceiling and the phone rings and wakes up to the phone ringing, it would crane down fast to the phone then zoom in on the phone, it would ring a few times then you hear "Hello Steven, Steven, It's urgent are you awake, its Caroline, I know it's late but we need you, call me back when you get this". (number 2)

· 4) Then to (number 3 in his bedroom) and this is where he will be just answering the phone and then a flash and it flashes back to the flashback (number 3) where she's walking and the lights are off and the camera angle is an over the shoulder shot of her walking, slowly to show that she is scared. (music stops) Then it flashes and all you can hear is her saying 'Hello Steven, you there, Steven?’ then it then it goes back to (number 4) where he’s answered the phone and he’s looking in to space and you hear once again ‘Steven?’ and a close up of him snapping out of it and him going ‘yeah I’m here, what do you want’ she replies saying ‘we need you, we need your help, I know you’re retired and after the last time, you swore you were done, but this is important’ he replies with ‘to who you, the agency, yes you are right I told you I’m done’.

· 5) Then it flashes back to (number four in the hallway) where he's stood there blocking the door way, she's trapped, at this point all you see is her back/shoulder and him standing in the way of the door. (music playing)

· 6) Then to (number 5 in the hallway) the man pulls out his gun she turns around, camera shot goes to a shot an over the shoulder shot of him but you don't see his face all you see is a bit of his shoulder a gun, then a gun going off, then you see her drop to the floor him turn around and then he turns around and takes of his mask and this is where the audience see's that it's Steven who is the killer.(music playing)

· 7) Then it flashes back to (number 5 in his bedroom) with him sat there and you hear through the phone 'Steven?' then you here a gunshot go off which is in his head, he kind of just 'comes back in the room' and then he hangs up in shock and says 'I can’t go back' (music playing) then it comes up with a black screen and the title of the film will come with something around the lines of these, as we haven't decided are title yet
I will be doing the camera work for this film wh Emilyit and Jordan as the actors.
The work above was created by Jordan, and is took off of his blog site, as he is a member of my group

Regulations

Regulation
For different films their are different age ratings at which you can go and watch the film in the cinema or buy the DVD. The age ratings are:
  • U - Suitable for all
  • PG - Parental Guidance
  • 12A - Cinema release suitable for 12 years and over
  • 12 - Video release suitable for 12 years and over
  • 15 - Suitable only for 15 years and over
  • 18 - Suitable only for adults
  • R18 - Adult works for licensed premises only
I agree with all of these ratings as they are their to protect the younger people and allow films to be made at an age 18 without younger people getting in to watch them. It also signifies what films you'd expect to see with certain age ratings on for example, a Disney film would be rated at a U or a PG, and a murdering, scary, blood and guts film would more than like be an 18.

Thriller films age ratings-
Sinister : 15
The call : 15
The silence of the lambs : 18
Saw : 18

From all of these four thriller films there is a range of ratings between 15-18. Due to the fact that the content might not be suitable for views below the ages.

The rating I think our film would get and what were aiming for-
The rating which I think our film would get is a 12A, and our group decided that we would like a 12A as it means we can aim for a wider audience without making it too scary. Even though our thriller is going to be in the sub-genre of a psychological spy. The market and audience consideration we have to take into account is not having too much violence, so the whole thriller isn't based on violence. We have to use moderate language infrequently, words such as  'bitch' or 'twat'. We have to make sure everything is moderate enough for the rating of a 12, which we believe it will be, or we will try to make it as close as we can.

Uses and gratification theory

Brief history of the Thriller Genre

The Thriller genre is a broad genre of literature, film, gaming and television. The main components to a Thriller include:
  • Fast paced
  • Frequent action
  • Resourceful heroes.
In the Thrillers, literary devices such as suspense, red herrings and cliff hangers and excitement scenes are used excessively to make the audience be 'on the edge of their seat'. It often influences the audiences mood, making them feel anxious, uncertain and a huge adrenaline rush.

Characteristics:
  • Thrillers often overlap with mystery stories, but are distinguished by the structure of their plot.
  • They occur on much grander scales.
  • Standard plot elements include a sense of jeopardy.
  • Climax: A mystery climaxes when the mystery is solved, A thriller climaxes when the hero defeats the villain.
  • They are often influenced by a film noir and tragedy, the hero is often killed in the process.
Our film is going to have cliff hangers in them, like. 'Who is Steven Carter?' and 'What was Steven Carters past like?'

Steven Spielberg is a well know director who has directed a range of different films from War of the worlds to Jaws, he is also considered as one of the most influential filmmakers in the history of cinema.
His films make the audience viewing it, sit on the edge of their seat waiting to find out what happens, and above are a few of the films he's directed which have done this, along with other well known directors.

Saving Private Ryan is one of the classic films which talks about the army and what it was like to be in it, whilst having to save Private Ryan, it also takes you along with them to show you their feelings and emotions whilst being in the army with none of their family around. I believe that this film is very influential and moving to the audience as it makes you believe that you're there with the characters so you feel exactly what they feel which leads you onto feeling sorry for them, and then being very gratifying to the group of people who save Private Ryan as they risk their life to save his and you go through their journey with them. You get pulled in to their low points in the army and their terrifying points, which just makes you feel like you're with them.

The main task.

In the main preliminary task I worked with Emily, Jordan and Alex. We had to create a short video of a thriller, which had to include certain shots, dialogue and it had to have continuity..
Behind the camera was Alex, doing all the shots and positioning with the help from the rest of the group and In front of the camera was Myself, Emily and Jordan. Our video evolved from talking English to then talking in a French accent, and a lot of bloopers to follow that! bloopers and the finished video to follow soon!

The first shots..

The first task we were set is picture taking! We had 12 different shots we had to take, including long shots, close ups, rule of thirds and many others! For this we walked around the school site finding shots that we thought fit the criteria well! The camera we used were a Fujifilm FinePix S4900. The task didn't start well due to the fact we couldn't fit the camera on the tripod, but then we sorted it and it worked so we could carry on, take a look at our pictures below...

Preliminary Task

This is my AS Media Studies blogger, where you'll get to see the pictures and videos and task info about the work we've been set in lesson! The first task I'll be doing is the Preliminary task! I hope you enjoy..
